Carrs Mine is an old lead and zinc mine that was reopened as a working mine for managed visitor access in 1995. (true?)
Trips are led by Society volunteers
Allow about 90 minutes
There is one short ladder climb and an outdoor walk to/from the mine entrance and exit - no babes in arms or baby buggies underground
The temperature underground is around 8C and it can be a little drippy and wet or muddy underfoot in places
We provide lamps and helmets (both children and adult sizes) and suggest that you wear outdoor clothing and footwear.
Those with specific or special needs may be able access the mine tour in whole or in part by special arrangement and or with specialist support assistance. Please contact us to discuss beforehand. Likewise we can sometimes support private group visits by arrangement.
We carry out mine maintenance from November through to late March so we tend to avoid arranging mine tours in that time period.
The current schedule of open days with mine trips and information on how to make a booking are given on the Public Open Days webpage.
