PROS
The Google Sites application and hosting, software updates and site security are all maintained by Google as part of the Google Workspace package. We only pay for the nentheadmines.org domain registration at GoDaddy which is £10 p.a.
Google Sites is template-based (there is a selection) so its very simple to create and edit web pages in a variety of basic formats
You can embed Google Forms - which also comes for free as part of the Google Workspace. Google Forms integrates with Google Sheets, meaning that new booking form requests can be automatically added to a Google Sheet as they come in for easy tracking and back-office responding to booking requests
Photo gallery(ies) and videos are readily embedded in web pages via widgets you chose in the Page editor
Links out to external services can be embedded - for example, to MemberMojo, a Bunkhouse booking service (?), and TripAdviser reviews
Practical things
Anybody in the Google Workspace - or a group of people - can be enabled to edit / administer the website content in the Google Site
Simplicity of use - once a page is created, maintaining / editing its content and publishing the updated result is trivial
Trivially simple preview function for web site look and feel on smartphones, tablets and desk PCs before commiting to publishing
CONS
The basic templates give a limited range of sophistication of possible web page layout and styling. You can pay to licence third party templates if you want to
Workflow design can be constrained by the limited functionalities of the Google applications
